Making Peace with the Slow Seasons

Making Peace with the Slow Seasons

Not every month is meant to be a hustle. In fact, I hate that word! For me it sounds unstable and as if everything is being done in a rushed way to squeeze in more and more instead of less and better.

Some seasons come quietly, without deadlines or packed schedules, and they can leave us wondering if we’re doing enough.

This past month was slower than usual for me. Sales were down a little, I had fewer projects, fewer demands. And at first, I felt the tug of doubt — should I be doing more? Why am I not busier?

The uninvited but welcome space gave me time to day-dream again — to think about future projects, explore new design ideas, and reconnect with the creative part of me that sometimes gets buried under to-do lists. I also found myself more present at home. The extra family time wasn’t just nice — it was needed. I could see how it positively impacted my children, and honestly, how much I needed it too.

It's hard for me to not be busy. My mind is not a quiet one, it's always churring away. I always say that if for some reason all my work disappeared today, I'd have a new business idea by tomorrow morning. So for me to have less happening is a challenge, and leaning into a new pace is a process I very much noticed.

I had to relearn that we don’t have to fill every moment to be productive. Sometimes, stillness is what helps us show up better, clearer, and more grounded when things pick back up.

Slow seasons have a quiet kind of value. They remind us to breathe, reflect, and reset. They prepare us mentally, creatively, and emotionally, for the full and busy seasons to come.

So if you're in a slow season, think of it like this: it’s not a setback. It’s a gift. Use it. Trust it. Lean into that time in a new way.
