Getting Comfortable with Failure

Getting Comfortable with Failure

The Hidden Power of Getting It Wrong

We live in a world that glorifies success and perfectionism. We want the perfect final product, the perfect launch, the beautiful images, the viral content, the award nominations. Behind every filter, every achievement and every goal, is a trail of failures, mistakes and mishaps.

Failure isn’t the opposite of success — it’s a vital part of it the process. Mistakes, missteps, and messy experiments are how we learn, and how we become more knowledgeable. Every time something doesn’t go as planned, we’re handed a choice. Draw a line under it, and go a different direction, or go deeper and ask more questions. Every failure is a chance to ask more, learn more, and achieve more.

Being comfortable with failure doesn’t mean you want to fail — it means you’re not paralysed by the fear of it. It frees you to take risks, explore ideas that feel out of reach, and push past hesitation. That’s where growth lives.

Coming into this business I was not an expert, in fact, I was a complete beginner in everything I was doing. In many ways this helped me because I had nothing to prove. No pre-conceived notions, and no limit to what I could learn. I truly believe that this is why my business is still alive, because I'm always comfortable with failing. I'm happy to put myself in situations where I'm the least qualified because I can only come away with learnings, new connections, and new opportunities. Are there times when I feel my time is wasted? Absolutely, but again, I learn the lesson and I move forward with that in my pocket for next time.

Without failure, I would not be still here doing what I'm doing. My business is built on it and the lessons I've learned from each failure.

Whenever you next feel confined by your fear of failure, try to think about it as a learning opportunity. Instead of thinking, what if I fail? Try, what could I learn from this? I promise you it is an absolute game-changer.
