5 Ways I’m Eco-Conscious in My Business
Share
I use these 5 simple methods to make sure I'm making good choice for my business and my customers
Sustainability has always been at the heart of my business. As a small business owner, I believe that every step towards eco-consciousness makes a difference. From packaging choices to printing methods, I strive to ensure that my business practices align with my values. Here are five ways I’ve made my business more sustainable:
Compostable Logo Stickers
Branding is essential, but it doesn't have to come at the expense of the planet. That’s why our logo stickers are printed on compostable paper made from sugar cane fiber. This ensures that even the smallest details of our packaging are as eco-friendly as possible.
Compostable “Plastic” Sleeves
Traditional plastic packaging can take hundreds of years to decompose, so we’ve opted for a sustainable alternative. Our clear sleeves for our greeting cards are made from compostable bio-based film. The production of this bio-based film delivers a lower carbon footprint and additional end of life options compared to most oil-based plastics. Whenever possible, we eliminate the need for sleeves entirely by using compostable card clasp stickers instead.
Eco-Friendly Greeting Cards
We have partnered with thefactory.ie to print all of our greeting cards on 100% recycled card. They use green energy and eco-friendly inks, and the entire printing process is carbon-balanced. This means our cards are not only beautiful but also kinder to the environment. The quality is fantastic so we're delighted that we don't have to compromise.
Recycled Kraft Paper Envelopes
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond just the cards themselves. All of our card envelopes are made from recycled Kraft paper, reducing waste and giving new life to existing materials. Kraft paper is already easily recyclable, but we've gone the extra step and sourced recycled Kraft paper envelopes. Every little effort makes a difference.
Reusing and Plastic-Free Packaging
We prioritise reusing as much packaging as possible, from boxes from deliveries, to paper stuffing that comes with our supplies. We put all of that back into our packaging cycle. Every element of our packaging is plastic-free, including the tape we use to seal orders. By eliminating single-use plastic, we ensure that our packaging is as sustainable as possible. We make every effort to purchase recycled envelopes for sending out orders too, so every element is as eco-friendly as we can make it.
Sustainability & Longevity
Sustainability isn’t just about using recycled materials - it’s also about creating products that last so they don't need replacing. We've chosen not to print our art prints on recycled paper because print paper cannot be both recycled and archival quality. By choosing archival paper, we ensure that our prints maintain their high quality and longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
At the same time, we believe that using recycled materials does not mean compromising on quality. Our greeting cards, envelopes, and packaging are all made from recycled sources without sacrificing durability or aesthetics. Thoughtful material choices allow us to balance sustainability with exceptional quality.
Making small changes in business operations can have a significant impact on the environment. I’m continuously looking for new ways to reduce waste and improve sustainability in my business. Have you taken any eco-friendly steps in your own business or daily life? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
